A note on pronunciation: For those unfamiliar with the eccentricities of Irish orthography (i.e. almost everyone), my given name, Maidhc, is simply the Irish spelling of “Mike.” My surname, Ó Cathail, is pronounced something like “Oh-Caw-hill.”
